The Department of Kansas is
proud to have been selected to host the 2010 National Encampment for the Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans
of the Civil War, and the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic.
This is the first time in the history of the SUVCW or GAR that a
National Encampment has been held within the borders of
From the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854, through the
years of “Bleeding Kansas” and its border wars from 1855 to 1861, through the
Civil War, and in the post-war Western expansion when Kansas would become known
as the “Soldier State,” Kansas has been synonymous with the Civil War.
